There was a beautiful sunny autumn afternoon today, I took a little wander around my garden with a macro lens attached to the camera just to see what I could find. Texture was the name of the day, fluffy seeds along with wrinkled apples and toadstools, in some amazing tones and colours. Add Comment I'm grinning and waiting from my new laptop to arrive, looking through all the files and programs on my computer, working out what to transfer, what to store and what to get rid of altogether (not much of that). So here are a few pic that haven't made it to the blog or a gallery so far. After a relaxing few days off, sunday found me with a bit of excess energy, so I decided to climb up Kimberley's Lookout near Sheffield to take some sunset pictures, the light quality was well worth the effort. Unfortunately my leg muscles protested for a couple of days about the unfair treatment, I really should be putting more effort into my fitness ,if only to give me more photographic opportunities. Yesterday I whiled away some hours filling up a memory card of images at Home Hill on Middle Road in Devonport, Tasmania. The House is a national trust building, it was built by Joseph and Enid Lyons in 1916, Joe was a Tasmanian Politician who went on to become Prime Minister of Australia. The Home is open to the public and for a small price you get a very detailed tour, provided by dedicated volunteers. The home is full of gorgeous furnishings, handmade items made by Dame Enid who was a Politician in her own right after her husband passed away, theirs' is quite an amazing story, much of which you will hear on the tour. In the hours I was there I only managed to get through 3 rooms and a few outside, but there's plenty of time to go back again and again. Here where these photos were taken at Don Heads near Devonport the change is almost imperceptible to the human eye, but the wash of the waves the reaction of minerals in the rock and water weather and erode the old lava from it's straight angular edged shapes into rounded lumps. But the changes in my life are not so gradual, after nearly two years working at The Advocate newspaper as a full-time press photographer, I've resigned to take up full time studies for a Bachelor of Science in Geology (rocks incase you hadn't guessed). The decision is exciting and scary, but there's no looking back now and as my husband tells me 'Failure is NOT an option". Photography will remain an important part of my life, will a little luck it may give me a bit of pocket money to help cover petrol money for the regular trips I'll be making to Uni in Launceston and Hobart. I had a bit of an early start this morning, dropping the kids off at the bus stop and leaving a vehicle at the garage for maintenance, as I was heading out the door I turned around and ran back in to get my camera. If I had to walk home I may as well grab a few photos along the way, the clouds were a bit heave so the autumn leaves weren't exactly glowing but once in a while a looking for something different is good for the mind. After wondering what I'm likely to use all the images for that I've taken through the last few months, I decide to put together a financial year diary featuring colourful seasonal images from Tasmania - I'm getting one for myself but they're availible for anyone to by through www.momentoshop.com.au I've been itching to get out to the Arboretum for Days but weather and other duties have kept me away - today I had a few hours to kill, while waiting for an appointment so I headed to the Arboretum, hoping that the weather would hold off. I managed to arrive as one heavy shower passed, which gave me a window of about an hour to fill up a couple of memory cards - just as the second card was reaching capacity, thunder started to roll around the hills, and as I shut the car door the clouds released their heavy load. I was quite happy with my quick trip to the Arboretum I even managed to find a new section I hadn't visited before, where the smell of damp mountain beech leaves reminded me of the New Zealand bush I grew up in. Autumn is here and the deciduous tree in our garden are putting on a show. I couldn't resist a quick 15mins out taking pick between household chores on my day off. |
