Leave No Trace?

Is it really possible go somewhere, to experience a place and leave know trace?
Leave No Trace is a principle of responsible interaction with the environment which many conservation minded groups advocate for,  but in practice both at a physical level, and more profoundly at what you might call a spiritual or metaphysical level we can't help but leave a trace of ourselves and our experiences in the landscape/environment/Places we go, and we should be conscious of that. Science understands that simply by observing we change that which is being observed, to think differently is ignorance.

XX Exhibition

Nolan Art is celebrating Dark Mofo with a show called XX about the experience of being a woman. Opening on Friday June 8th at 6pm, the exhibition is being curated by Yilian Basser and has sculptural and 2 dimensional work from artists living as women in the days of President Trump.

I submitted an image inspired by thinking about transition points in my life and
the path that brought me to this point. I reflected on points at which my experience could have been very different, each a crossroad where I sometimes actively, sometimes unconsciously made a choice. As I created images I also realised there were points at which I made active choices but I didn't recognise all the choices available to me, I think social conditioning played a part in this.

These images are autobiographical and I see further exploration ahead for this concept.

Light my way

“When making, lighting and carrying my leewurre, I am provided with that strong connection to my Ancestors, Country and Creation. It is through this Ancestral practice of Ceremony and prayer, of healing people and Country, that I light my way in this life and continually forever in spirit on trawlwoolway Country, where I belong. “
Fire and smoke illuminate Dave’s path and evoke a sense a connection across time and space. This image is part of an ongoing collaborative project to visually interpret Dave’s connection to his Country, Culture and Community.

This image created as a collaboration between Dave Mangenner Gough and I was awarded a Highly Commended recognition by the 2018 judging panel of the Bay of Fires Art Prize, we received great feedback about how they engaged with this images and understood our intent, they offered us encouragement to go on and explore the concepts further and present more work in the future.

The exhibition is open at Tidal Waters Resort in St Helens, Tasmania for the rest of the month.
