The forest, the coast, grassy plains and the rivers of the Tarkine were visited by an enthusiastic group of professional and citizen scientist this weekend. The mission was to find and record the rich and diverse range of living things in these environments to help build evidence of the outstanding values and these places.
This is especially relevant for an area of the Sumac forest that is scheduled to be logged in by the Tasmanian Government funded forestry program in 2018, it hosts amazing old growth rainforest, with unbelievably tall trees hundreds of years old and every niche ecosystem you can think of for plants, insects and mammals.
